Making Duvet Covers with Bed Sheets

Duvet covers made with bed sheets are not only cheaper but alter your home decor at the cost of pre-hemmed flat sheets.

First lay out the sheets face-to-face and pin three edges according to the size of the duvet, leaving the cuffed edge unstitched for the opening. Hands sew or machine stitch along the marked sides. Trim off excess fabric or thread.

Turn this cover inside out. With the right side facing make relevant markings for either buttons or ties. Incase of buttons a slit must be cut on the additional flap sewed on the facing sheet for the button to pass through. Finish off by button-edging the slit.

Alternatively for ties use ribbon or strips of matching cloth stitched on both sides to avoid fraying and sew them at intervals along both edges so they can be tied together. A zipper works well to keep the duvet in place.
